Staycation: Embracing the Sun in the UK

Image
With the awesome weather blessing the UK, it is most definitely calling for a staycation. Often less stressful and cheaper than going abroad, these locations are bursting at the seams with attractions for you to fill your time with! London Source: Bendavisual on Unsplash Why fly yourself to Venice, Italy this Summer, when you could visit Little Venice in London at a fraction of the price? Take a trip in a water taxi which resembles the traditional gondolas in the Italian city. Enjoy waterside cafes, pubs and restaurants during the summer months. Whilst enjoying the air of Italy around London, you can also enjoy the extravagant Georgian architecture and great outside spaces. If you are from out of the UK, you simply cannot leave without a taste of a British delicacy — pie and mash. This classic dish should be enjoyed in the East End for authenticity or in a higher end restaurant for a gastronomic rendition of the delicious dish! Manchester This City is home to some amazi...

Europe By Rail Or Mediterranean Break?

Image
‘Europe by Rail’ sounds brilliant doesn't it? A kind of romantic introduction to a film that everyone wants to watch because you are sure to see a lot of amazing things, hear some hilarious jokes and experience a thrilling adventure. It kind of is but it will be the single most expensive way of watching several really good films in one sitting. My best friend and I took on this mammoth adventure; we planned a round trip using our 1 month continuous global youth InterRailPass and we planned to visit over ten cities in six different countries. The constant moving, checking-in, checking-out, running along platforms, reserving tickets and looking for toilets (with huge rucksacks!) took over the majority of the trip that had cost us so much. For the amount of money and time, we should h...

A New Take On Giving - Making Up Your Own Special Occasions

Image
Never a week goes by these days without feeling like I have to buy a gift for someone, for some kind of occasion or for some kind of reason. Is it my imagination or are we turning towards a culture of incessant gift giving and are these occasions and reasons even worth the investment? Do we care? It’s a bit like that poster that was popular a while back that said- ‘Buy More Sh*t or We Are All Fu**ked’.  By buying stuff we are investing in the economy, giving people jobs so they can make/provide more stuff. However it’s the same old chicken and egg scenario. We don’t have the jobs and we don’t have the money. What we are left with are these occasions we feel socially pressured to buy stuff for. Let me reel off the names for some. Somehow it feels cathartic, so indulge me please. Rather than celebrate birthdays, just pick a random day in the year (when you really feel like it) and buy someone you care about a present and give it to them. It doesn’t have to be big or expens...
