Five Ways Technology is Changing Business

A world without internet seems unimaginable but it is only in our lifetime that it’s really developed and become what it is today. Rewind twenty years and the internet was only just being introduced, mobile phones were almost non-existent and touch-id and facial recognition were inconceivable. As technology is rapidly developing it is vital for businesses both small and large to keep their technology up to date as not to fall behind in the modern world. So, exactly how are businesses being changed by technology?

Productivity

The development of technology allows companies to use computer programs and automated business software to replace manual methods of processing information. This means improved access to information and data and a step towards a ‘paperless office’. A paperless office = faster, more agile work with fewer mistakes. Surely that’s a win-win situation? Despite the benefits, this adds questions to employment opportunities.

Accessibility

Everything’s at our finger tips nowadays. Everyone wants internet and they want it now. It’s got to the point where if internet is lost we descend into chaos (AKA the O2 server drama). Pretty much everything we previously had to do on our box-like computers can now be condensed into our smartphones. This is great for businesses as basically all tasks can be handled anywhere and everywhere. This is great when working on-the-go, not so great when you are bombarded with emails on your break-away.

'The Cloud'

Gone are the days of the humble memory stick. Remote servers (otherwise known as The Cloud) have been revolutionary both for businesses and the general public. For businesses, The Cloud has allowed data loss to become a thing of the past and diminished the fear of manually backing up work and important data. Data packages can be varied dependent on the size of the companies so are accessible to all. Not only this, cloud computing allows for mobility and accessibility anywhere.

Apps

Whether simple or complex, it’s increasingly important for businesses to have apps to be able to keep up with changing technology and competitors. B2B app development allows businesses to design practical apps with engaging designs to satisfy consumers. Not only does this improve customer satisfaction (if done properly), it allows a business to widen their digital footprint and consumer reach.

Social Impact

The increasing global usage of social media requires businesses to be wary of their digital footprint and their social identity online. Yes, social networking has its benefits- increased presence online, improved communication as well as overcoming geographical barriers. However, how a business appears online can drastically influence their population and reputation. Whether it’s a bad review on Google or a consumers struggling to find a business online, digital marketing and social networking can have a significant impact.

Long story short, a business needs to keep up to date in the ‘tech department’ to be able to keep up with the ever-changing phenomena that is modern day life. Sure, it has its downsides but I for one would not be writing this blog post without it, so you don’t see me complaining.
