Top 3 Cycle Events to Look Out for This Summer
So yesterday (Sunday 19th June) it was the London to Brighton
cycling event, a hugely anticipated British Heart Foundation charity
fundraising bike ride between the capital and everyone’s favourite seaside town.
Thousands of southerners and biking enthusiasts took to the saddle at the crack
of dawn with the Brighton seaside finish line clear in their minds. I actually
knew a guy participating this year, so it was not only just important that I was
there to cheer him on, but I was also there for the very important fish and
chips consumption afterwards.
As a huge cycling fan and a Brighton local, I managed to catch a lot of
the action as the riders began to filter their way into the city of Brighton. It
was a feast for the eyes for a bike lover like myself, thanks to the array of
beautiful racing
bikes and the sheer commitment shown in all participants’ faces.
We as humans often shy away from putting ourselves through extended pain, however these guys all had smiles on their faces. I struggled to see pain, just happiness and success. As important as fundraising is for the running of our charities, self-accomplishment is just as important. The whole day inspired me to share a few more up and coming biking events which are certainly not too late to go and admire from afar, or potentially book in for next year.

Bikeathon
This is a big one and one I always keep my eye on every year. Covering
huge areas of the UK, there are lots of different areas to choose from. This is
a cancer
bike ride with a difference; fighting blood cancer is the cause,
meaning it is a little more niche. Cancer is of course a fundamental issue for
us all and we all wish to do something to help aid beating it for good. Opting
for a more niche fundraising event really is what allows these charities to
continue the imperative work they do on a daily basis. So if you were looking
for a reason why, you now have it and there is sure to be one right around the
corner, so no excuses!
Prudential
This iconic ride follows a 100-mile route around Surrey’s beautiful
countryside, so if you’re more of an off the beaten track rider, this would
suit you well. It’s an annual two-day cycling festival and a celebratory occasion
for everything bike related. From what I hear it’s a great day out for the
whole family. You can catch the festival between the Saturday 30th
July – Sunday 31st July 2016.
Suffolk Coast
Bike Ride
This event is a day only bike ride, perfect for your first cycling
event. Suffolk is known for its extremely flat land, making riding a bike just
that little bit easier. If you are concerned about distance there are three
routes to choose from: 35, 60 and finally 100 miles. This ride is a little
later in the calendar on Sunday 7th August 2016. If you decide this
is the ride for you, you will be riding in support of the Down’s Syndrome
Association, another fantastic cause. Not to mention you’ll also
be greeted by a packed bar and band once you reach the finish line.
